Facial Cosmetic Surgery Explained

Cosmetic surgery is a type of plastic surgery performed to enhance a person’s appearance. The primary goals of this surgery are to improve aesthetic appeal, proportion, and symmetry. It can be performed on all areas of the body, neck, and head. Cosmetic surgery continues to grow in popularity, and facial cosmetic surgery is one of the most sought-after cosmetic surgery in the world. But, what is facial cosmetic surgery?

Facial cosmetic surgery is one of the most popular types of plastic surgery. It aims to improve the appearance of someone’s face. For many people, facial plastic surgery can be important as our face is the first thing people see and our appearance has an impact on how others perceive us. Facial cosmetic surgery is done to improve areas that function correctly. There are a variety of reasons why people seek cosmetic surgery. Most people simply would like to improve certain parts of their face and want to address the shape or size of a feature that has bothered them for years. Some people want to correct their birth defects that don’t actually cause any function problems, such as birthmarks.

Facial Cosmetic Before and After

Facial cosmetic surgery has many types, depending on which feature of the face is being operated on. Below are some of the most popular types of facial cosmetic surgery in the world (in no particular order).

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty commonly referred to as the “nose job,” is a surgery to reshape the nose. It can improve the shape, size, and symmetry of someone’s nose, which brings it into better proportion with the rest of the face. Since the nose is located front and center of the face, it provides the foundation for aesthetic balance. Some people are not lucky enough to be born with a proportionate nose, while others simply want to reshape their nose because they don’t like the way it looks. Fortunately, with the help of a skilled cosmetic surgeon, the nose can be refined to enhance a person’s natural beauty. Rhinoplasty is considered as one of the most complicated facial cosmetic surgeries, however, it has a very high success rate of between 85% and 90%.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic surgery that aims to enhance the appearance of the eyelid. It is often performed to make someone appear younger and more alert. As we age, our skin becomes lax. There may be bags on the lower eyelids, and hooding or drooping of the upper eyelids. The procedure works by removing some excess skin, fat, and muscle from both the upper and lower eyelid. This procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning patients can leave the hospital on the same day. The recovery period of blepharoplasty is around two weeks until you can return to your daily activities and see the result of the surgery.

Facelift

Sometimes referred to by its medical term, rhytidectomy, a facelift is a cosmetic surgery to give a person’s face a more youthful appearance. It involves tightening underlying tissues, removal of excess facial skin, and tightening the skin of the face and the neck. Sun exposure, alcohol, cigarettes, gravity, and aging causes our skin to sag and make us look older than how we feel inside. Many people choose to have a facelift to achieve smoother, youthful skin. The most common reason for people to undergo a facelift is to remove sagging-jawline, rejuvenate areas below the eyes, and reduce deep creases from the corners of the mouth and the nose. About 80% to 90% of patients who had facelift experience positive and satisfying results after their procedure.

Facial Cosmetic Before and After

Brow lift

A brow lift, also known as forehead rejuvenation or forehead lift, is a procedure to raise the brows. It improves the appearance of the forehead, the brow, and the eye area by raising the soft tissue and skin of the brow and forehead. It is mostly done for people with brow asymmetry, or a low, sagging brow. Aging can cause our brows to move down because the skin and soft tissues in our face lose elasticity. This can also cause the distance between the brows and eyelashes to shorten. Many people are unhappy with the lower position of their eyebrows as a result of aging because it can make them look tired, sad, or angry. With a brow lift, the eyebrows are raised, restoring a refreshed and more pleasing appearance.

Facial implants

Facial implants are performed to enhance certain features of the face, mostly the cheeks, chin, and the jawline. It can bring a certain aspect of the face into proportion with the rest of the face and are designed to enhance the contours of the face. Chin and jawline augmentation are performed on individuals who want a stronger and more prominent chin, while cheek augmentation is suitable for people who want sharply and defined cheekbones. This procedure is sometimes performed at the same time as rhinoplasty. This procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis, meaning you don’t have to stay in the hospital overnight.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure to remove excess fat through a suctioning process. Although it is usually performed on the body, it has become very common to be done on the face. Facial liposuction is similar to liposuction on other areas of the body, the main difference is the amount of fat being removed. With facial liposuction, only a few ounces of fat are removed from the face. As we all know, it is hard to lose weight in our face. Our chin and jaw areas are notoriously resistant to the effects of diet and exercise. With liposuction, subtle improvement can be achieved, creating a more slender facial profile. The procedure is popular for those who want to improve their face shapes, such as their jawline, chin, neckline, and cheeks. It can be performed in less than an hour and the recovery time is typically very short.
